A 65-year-old man is accused of murdering his friend and keeping her dismembered body in a freezer with her pet guinea pigs for almost three years, according to court testimony.
The court heard that George Gordon allegedly killed Delia McInerney in April 2023, days before she was set to move to Portugal. Her body was discovered in a chest freezer at his flat in St Helens.
Prosecutors stated that after her death, Gordon posed as McInerney in messages and emails to her friends, while also taking out credit cards and loans in her name. He is accused of fraudulently accessing her bank accounts and obtaining financial services under her identity.
McInerney, who was 62 at the time of her death, had planned to move to Portugal with her guinea pigs. Gordon allegedly purchased items like a sledgehammer and handsaw, which were later found at the scene, and collected medications later found in her system.
The prosecution claims that the guinea pigs, which McInerney intended to take to Portugal, died by drowning. Gordon, who was known as Chris to his victim and friends, is accused of murdering her on April 11 or 12, 2023.
Following the discovery of McInerney’s body, Gordon was arrested after a request for her personal independence payment (PIP) was made to the Department of Work and Pensions by someone claiming to be a social worker. During his arrest, he told officers that her body was in the freezer.
