The Brief

  • Nate McMurray, a lawyer and former town supervisor, is running for the 145th Assembly District seat.
  • McMurray's journey includes work in South Korea, China, and Samsung's legal department.
  • He has previously run for Congress three times, losing each time.

Nate McMurray, a Democrat and lawyer, is seeking the 145th Assembly District seat. The district spans North Tonawanda, Grand Island, and areas along the Niagara River to Youngstown on Lake Ontario. The Erie Canal forms its southern boundary.

McMurray's father worked in drywall and sold snowmobiles, while his mother raised seven children after his father's death. His mother emphasized education, leading to his eventual career in law and international business.

McMurray served as Grand Island town supervisor and ran for Congress three times, losing each race. He also worked for Delaware North, a major hospitality company based in Buffalo, and helped expand its airport business.

He has a background in international law, including work with Samsung as senior legal counsel. He studied in South Korea and China, earning a Fulbright Scholarship and a degree from Tsinghua University.

McMurray has focused on issues affecting Niagara Falls, including tourism revenue and economic benefits for the region. He argues that too much of Niagara's tourism and power project earnings go to Albany instead of local communities.

He is running for the Assembly after previously challenging Republican Chris Collins for a congressional seat. McMurray's campaign highlights his experience in law, business, and community leadership as he seeks to represent his home district.
