Jets' Bailey records three sacks in win over Browns
Rookie edge rusher delivers standout performance in Jets' 17-12 victory.
The Brief
- Bailey recorded three sacks and seven tackles in the game.
- He generated nine pressures, the most by a rookie in a game since Jared Verse in 2024.
- His performance helped quiet early doubts about his NFL readiness.
David Bailey, the Jets' second overall pick in the 2025 draft, recorded three sacks and seven tackles in the team's 17-12 win over the Browns at MetLife Stadium.
Bailey generated nine pressures, the most by a rookie in a game since Jared Verse in 2024, according to Next Gen Stats.
The performance came after a slow start to his Jets season, during which he had just two sacks and 18 tackles through his first four games.
Bailey's most notable sack came on a third-and-30 in the fourth quarter, where he blew past Cleveland's Spencer Fano and dropped Deshaun Watson.
He also sacked Watson on the first play of the next Browns possession and stuffed running back Quinshon Judkins for no gain on a second-and-3.
Head coach Aaron Glenn praised Bailey's performance, stating it was consistent with what the team expected from the rookie edge rusher.
"I’m not really on social media," Bailey said, "so I can’t really speak on what was said. But … all that I feel like matters is what my coaches are telling me and what my teammates are telling me."
"That’s who David is," head coach Aaron Glenn said of the edge rusher who’d recorded just two sacks and 18 tackles through his first four games, "and we expected that."
"It felt good, man," Bailey said. "It felt good to know that I’m able to do this, to compete at the highest level."
