Jared Verse Stands By Comments on Steelers
Browns defensive end defends remarks about Steelers ahead of game despite poor performance.
The Brief
- Verse claimed Steelers were 'dirty' and vowed to 'make Pittsburgh ours' before game.
- Browns lost 27-3 to Steelers, with Verse contributing one tackle.
- Verse insists he stands by his statements and criticizes team's performance.
Browns defensive end Jared Verse made public comments about the Steelers being 'dirty' and vowed to 'make Pittsburgh ours' ahead of their Week 8 matchup. The remarks were shared through Cleveland.com reporter Ashley Bastock.
Despite Verse's pre-game bravado, the Browns suffered a 27-3 home defeat at the hands of the Steelers. Verse recorded just one tackle in the game.
Steelers players took some pleasure in roasting Verse after the game and dropped him on his head during it. Verse did not appear to take the criticism personally.
In a post-game interview, Verse reaffirmed his position, stating, 'I stand by everything I say, and as a man you have to naturally do that.' He also criticized the Browns' overall performance, claiming the team did not present itself effectively throughout the game.
Verse, who has 18 tackles and no sacks this season, has struggled to meet the expectations set by the Browns after acquiring him in the offseason trade of Myles Garrett to the Rams.
Verse won’t see the Steelers again this season unless the two teams meet in the playoffs.
