The Brief

  • High pressure system is expected to build from Friday, 16th October, potentially lasting beyond the 25th.
  • Temperatures are forecast to drop to near 0C or below during the weekend and into the following week.
  • Rain is expected to continue through the week, with some areas seeing mist and fog overnight.

Met Eireann has issued a forecast warning of a wet and breezy start to the week before temperatures drop below 0C.

A period of more settled weather is expected to begin on Thursday as high pressure takes over, according to weather experts.

Kenneth McDonagh of the Donegal Weather Channel noted that models suggest high pressure will build from Friday, 16th October, potentially lasting beyond the 25th of the month.

The UKMO has also indicated a blocking high pressure system is forming near Ireland and the UK, which could halt Atlantic weather patterns.

Despite the arrival of high pressure, temperatures are expected to remain relatively cool, with daytime highs around 10C to 12C and nighttime temperatures near or below 0C.

Rain is still forecast for the remainder of the week, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending into parts of Connacht and south Leinster.

Met Eireann warned that mist and fog patches will develop overnight, becoming dense in some areas.
