U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has pitched a Russia diesel deal, under which Russia is likely to supply nearly 5 million tons of diesel fuel to global energy markets, as a positive prospect for the Americans.
Bessent stated in an interview with Fox News that the U.S. will proceed with the deal using all legal authorities available.
The agreement was announced by the U.S. on Friday following a phone call between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A temporary general license was issued allowing the purchase of Russian diesel until April 7, 2027.
Russia said it had eased a ban on diesel exports with immediate effect, following the agreement between Putin and Trump.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that production volumes are sufficient to meet both domestic demand in full and exports to the global market in the specified volumes.
