The Brief

  • Nick Timoney and Craig Casey earn starting spots.
  • Sam Prendergast returns after wrist injury.
  • Seven players return from long-term injuries.

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has named a starting lineup with seven personnel changes for the upcoming Nations Championship match against Argentina in Dublin on Friday.

Ulster's Nick Timoney starts at openside flanker, while Munster's Craig Casey is named at scrum-half. Leinster's Sam Prendergast, who had been a doubt due to a wrist injury, is declared fit to start.

Connacht's Sean Jansen gets a starting chance at number eight, marking his second Test appearance. Farrell has made seven changes from the team that last played against New Zealand in July.

Returning players include loosehead prop Andrew Porter, blindside flanker Ryan Baird, and left wing Mack Hansen, all of whom had been sidelined for over a year due to injuries. Robbie Henshaw moves to outside centre, with Garry Ringrose sidelined.

Hooker Dan Sheehan captains the side, joining Porter and Tadhg Furlong in the front row. Joe McCarthy and Tadhg Beirne form the second row, with James Ryan coming off the bench. The returning Baird links up with Jansen and Timoney in an all-new Irish back row.

In the backline, Stuart McCloskey partners Henshaw in midfield, with Hansen in the back three alongside fullback Hugo Keenan and right wing Robert Baloucoune. The Irish bench is made up of a 5/3 split of forwards and backs, with Bundee Aki being asked to make an impact in the number 23 shirt.
