Harry Styles Mentions Oscar Belgal During Concert

During a concert at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Harry Styles addressed the audience about Oscar Belgal, a man shot by ICE in the Bronx earlier that week. Belgal was in his car with his 3-year-old son when the incident occurred.

Styles urged the crowd to remember and look after each other, referencing the ICE shooting without explicitly naming the agency. He emphasized the importance of creating safe and respectful communities for all people.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Belgal was shot in the neck after being surrounded by ICE officers in plain clothes. City police arrived at the scene and transported Belgal to the hospital, where he is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Federal officials described Belgal as an 'illegal alien gang member' from the Dominican Republic who had prior arrests in New York City. The mayor, Zohran Mamdani, called the shooting an outrage, stating there was no justification for the use of force in a situation involving a child.

Mamdaani highlighted the lack of visibility for ICE agents, who were wearing masks and construction vests, and expressed concern over the impact on immigrant communities in New York City. He vowed not to normalize ICE’s actions and to protect the civil liberties of residents.

Styles’ concert residency at Madison Square Garden continues through October 31, with additional tour dates planned for 2027 in North America and Europe.
