Giants Eye Derrick Henry Amid Trade Deadline
Giants show interest in Ravens' running back as trade deadline approaches.
The Brief
- Giants face Eagles in final game before trade deadline.
- Giants reportedly interested in Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor.
- Henry expresses desire to stay with Ravens despite losing streak.
The New York Giants will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, their final game before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. The matchup comes as the Giants, with a 4-2-1 record, aim to secure their first division title since 2011.
The Giants have shown interest in high-profile running backs, including Indianapolis Colts' Jonathan Taylor and Baltimore Ravens' Derrick Henry. Henry, who has been linked to the team, has not ruled out a potential trade but emphasized the need for improvement within the Ravens.
Following the Ravens' third consecutive loss, Henry stated, 'I have not mentioned me going anywhere else. I’m saying, 'Let’s go back to work. Let’s try to get better and turn this thing around.'
A to Z Sports reported that the Giants are among two teams interested in Henry, with the other being the New England Patriots. Both teams have connections to Henry's former coaches, John Harbaugh and Mike Vrabel.
Henry, 32, has one year remaining on his contract and is expected to be less expensive in a trade compared to Taylor. Giants head coach John Harbaugh previously mentioned the desire to have a 'Derrick Henry circumstance' in the run game.
Despite Harbaugh's comments, the Giants' running backs combined for 180 rushing yards against Houston, though both Tyrone Tracy and Cam Skattebo sustained injuries. Henry, who leads the league in rushing attempts this season, is struggling with a career-low 3.9 yards per carry this season due to the absence of quarterback Lamar Jackson.
