Gandhi Reiterates Debate Challenge, Sitharaman Issues Counter
Union Finance Minister N Sitharaman and JD(U) spokesperson challenge Rahul Gandhi to debate in Parliament.
The Brief
- N Sitharaman criticizes Gandhi for not engaging in parliamentary debate.
- JD(U) urges Gandhi to accept Amit Shah's challenge if he supports parliamentary democracy.
- Gand, in response, has again challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a public debate on national security issues.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad have responded to Rahul Gandhi's debate challenge by urging him to participate in parliamentary discussions. Sitharaman highlighted the existing parliamentary venue for debate and questioned Gandhi's commitment to democratic institutions.
Sitharaman's post emphasized that Gandhi should demonstrate his respect for the Constitution by engaging in debates within Parliament, where he holds the position of Lok Sabha Speaker. She also noted that the Supreme Court has affirmed the Election Commission's authority over the SIR process, which is being conducted legally.
Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated that if Gandhi truly believes in parliamentary democracy, he should accept Amit Shah's challenge to a special session of Parliament. Prasad also pointed out that the Supreme Court's recent ruling supports the legal framework of the SIR exercise.
Meanwhile, the Congress has criticized Amit Shah, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the suspension of the SIR process before any debate can take place. Gandhi, in response, has again challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a public debate on national security issues.
In a social media post, Gandhi called on Modi to choose a venue and stage for a debate, promising media coverage, youth participation, and a neutral judging panel. He suggested that Modi could appoint Mohan Bhagwat as the judge if desired.
