Elon Musk's mother nearly skipped Sports Illustrated shoot over wrinkles
Maye Musk recalls hesitation over appearance for iconic swimsuit cover.
The Brief
- Musk worried about wrinkles and cellulite for the Sports Illustrated shoot.
- She eventually agreed after her daughter encouraged her to go to Belize.
- Musk did not alter her appearance for the cover, keeping her silver hair.
Maye Musk nearly declined the opportunity to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit due to concerns about her appearance. She told Fox News Digital that she was uncomfortable with the idea of wearing a swimsuit at her age.
Musk, who is 74, said she preferred to wear long sleeves to hide her wrinkles and cellulite. However, her daughter convinced her to take the chance, and she ultimately agreed to the shoot in Belize.
Musk did not undergo any cosmetic changes for the cover. She kept her signature silver hair and said she felt fashionable rather than old. She also emphasized that she did not feel the need to color her hair.
In her new memoir, 'Timeless,' Musk described the process of posing for the shoot. She said she felt at ease with the photographer and even danced with locals during the photoshoot. She also noted that the shoot was quick and respectful.
Musk had previously faced challenges with modeling, including a nude shoot for TIME magazine. She sought her children's approval before agreeing to the shoot, with her son Kimbal being the only one who encouraged her to proceed.
Musk believes that aging with confidence is important and that taking care of one's health plays a role in feeling good at any age. She also emphasized the importance of self-respect and not allowing others to make one feel insecure.
