A billboard on Egypt's 26th of July Axis was hacked on Thursday, displaying pornographic footage, according to government and local media reports.
The footage, which was shared on social media, included text stating it was 'Leaked by: Ch, 19ylegal never and niv, and the name of a Telegram channel, @LeakersGov.
On Friday, the Telegram channel posted a message criticizing Egypt's government, stating, 'Egypt remains under a dictatorship. The government maintains its power through repression, while the country struggles to move forward. Years pass, but nothing changes and people’s lives don’t improve.'
The interior ministry confirmed the billboard was operated by an advertising firm contracted with an international company, which was the target of a cyberattack.
The ministry noted the breach occurred in several other countries simultaneously but did not specify which countries or the company involved.
Local media reports indicate similar incidents occurred in Iraq, Malaysia, and Brazil, with explicit content displayed on electronic billboards.
Legal proceedings have been initiated, though the ministry did not provide further details on the case.
