Conway ruled out of ODI series after concussion
New Zealand's opener out for remainder of series against India
The Brief
- Devon Conway out for rest of ODI series after concussion.
- Nick Kelly to replace Conway in Wellington on Friday.
- India wins first ODI with Virat Kohli's 74 and strong bowling.
New Zealand's opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remaining matches in the five-game ODI series against India following a concussion sustained during a training session on Tuesday.
Conway suffered the injury while fielding during practice, which forced him to withdraw from the remainder of the series. Left-handed batter Nick Kelly, originally scheduled for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will join the squad in Wellington on Friday as his replacement.
Matt Henry, who was involved in the fielding incident that led to Conway's injury, has been cleared of concussion. This comes after New Zealand lost the opening ODI to India in Auckland on Wednesday.
India secured a comfortable victory in the rain-affected match, with Virat Kohli scoring an authoritative 74. Strong bowling performances from Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj, and Gurnoor Brar helped restrict New Zealand to 185.
India then chased down the revised target of 143 in 32 overs, despite rain interruptions. The second ODI is set for Saturday at Sky Stadium in Wellington, with New Zealand aiming to level the series.
