Dakar Rally 2027 Moves to Portugal and Morocco
The 2027 Dakar Rally will take place in Portugal and Morocco due to security concerns in Saudi Arabia.
The Brief
- The rally will run from January 9 to 23, 2027.
- The route spans 7,824 km, with 4,341 km of special stages.
- The event will start in Portugal and continue to Morocco.
The Dakar Rally, a renowned off-road endurance event, will be held in Portugal and Morocco for its 2027 edition. The decision follows security concerns in Saudi Arabia, where the event was originally scheduled.
The 49th edition of the rally, initially planned for January 1-15, will now take place from January 9-23, pending approval from the World Motor Sport Council.
The route will begin in the Algarve region of Portugal, featuring a prologue and the first special stage. From there, competitors will travel to Morocco, where the majority of the stages will be held.
The event will include eleven stages in Morocco, along with a rest day in Agadir. The final destination will be Marrakech, with the journey passing through the Atlas Mountains, the southern deserts, and the Atlantic coast.
Race Director David Castera stated that the new route maintains the Dakar's reputation as the most demanding rally-raid, despite the compressed schedule and logistical challenges.
