Shane Jacobson, a comedian known as the Dunny Man, has launched a campaign to find and improve Australia’s most neglected roadside toilet. The initiative, called 'The Great Aussie Dunny Rescue,' is being sponsored by Kleenex.
The campaign invites the public to nominate their local regional toilet for a potential renovation. Nominations must be submitted in no more than 50 words and can be made online.
Jacobson, whose nickname originated from his role in the 2006 film 'Kenny,' said that roadside toilets are essential for communities. He shared a personal experience of encountering a frog in a bog toilet, which motivated him to take action.
Pamela Wyatt, director of growth at Arbex, Kleenex's parent company, stated the campaign is part of celebrating 60 years of Kleenex production in South Australia. She emphasized the importance of everyday facilities like roadside toilets in regional areas.
The initiative aims to highlight the role of these facilities in supporting communities, particularly for women who may prefer cleaner options. Jacobson noted that while men may use toilets regardless of condition, women often seek better facilities.
The campaign will select the worst dunny and provide it with a much-needed renovation, potentially making a real difference in one community.
