The Brief

  • Brar conceded a six in his first over but adjusted his length in the 15th over.
  • He dismissed Tim Seifert with a snorter outside the off stump.
  • India defeated New Zealand by five wickets in a rain-affected match.

India pace bowler Gurnoor Brar credited a tactical adjustment in his bowling length for his effective performance against New Zealand in the first ODI. After conceding a six in his first over, Brar modified his length to make it harder for batters to hit over square leg or fine leg.

Brar was summoned by captain Shubman Gill in the 13th over at Eden Park, where he conceded 13 runs, including the six. However, he quickly adapted his approach and had his revenge in the 15th over by dismissing Tim Seifert with a snorter outside the off stump.

The dismissal came after Seifert could only slice the ball to substitute fielder Ruturaj Gaikwad at mid-on. Brar explained that the six he conceded was off a slightly fuller delivery, prompting him to adjust his length for better results.

Brar also took the wickets of Tom Latham and Blair Tickner to keep the Kiwis on the back foot. He attributed his success to the conditions and his own bowling style, stating that the wickets were good and the atmosphere was favorable for bowling.

India's victory in the rain-hit match came after a fine 74 from Virat Kohli, giving the team a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The match was played on a wicket similar to one they had practiced on four or five days earlier.
