Canelo Alvarez successfully weighed in for what will be the 69th fight of his storied career, challenging undefeated champion Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title. The weigh-in took place ahead of the event at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Alvarez, who has a record of 63-3-2, expressed the significance of the fight, stating it was important to him after 21 years in the sport. He emphasized his experience and confidence in facing Mbilli, who has never encountered an opponent like him.
Mbilli was elevated to undisputed status following Terence Crawford's retirement and the failure of a planned bout against Hamzah Sheeraz. He previously won an interim belt via a first-round knockout over Maciej Sulecki and retained it in his first defense against Lester Martinez via split draw on the Canelo vs. Crawford undercard.
Mbilli said, 'You’re going to see on Saturday what’s going to happen. Tomorrow night I’m going to beat him everywhere. Best conditioning, best punch, best technique, I’m going to put all my 100 percent on my fight.' He added, 'The fight of the decade, the fight of the year, it will be an amazing fight.'
The weigh-in results also included other matchups, such as Jamie Munguia vs. Nikita Zon.
