Australia took three wickets before lunch on the third day of the first test against South Africa, leaving the hosts at 115 for four. The match was played at Kingsmead.
South Africa, trailing by 275 runs, resumed the day at 27-1 after an overnight session. Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, and David Bedingham were all dismissed during the day.
Markram edged a ball from Mitch Starc and was caught by Matt Renshaw at first slip for 37. Bavuma was caught by Steve Smith after an injudicious reverse sweep, resulting in three runs.
Bedingham was dismissed by Smith after a diving catch at first slip, falling for 49 runs. Smith took two catches in the slips during the session.
Australia had a potential fourth wicket when Wiaan Mulder looked to be caught by Marnus Labuschagne off Nathan Lyon, but the decision was reversed after review. The ball had hit the deck before the catch.
South Africa began their reply to Australia’s first innings total of 390, with Renshaw scoring 190. The first two days of the test were cut short due to bad light, adding extra time to Sunday's sessions.
