Apple to release redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro in early 2027
Apple plans to bring its new MacBook Pro design to the entry-level model earlier than usual.
The Brief
- Redesign will reach entry-level MacBook Pro in early 2027, six months after high-end models.
- Entry-level model will feature M7 chip and new design, following a current M6 model.
- High-end MacBook Pro refresh is expected in fall 2027 with M7 Pro/M7 Max chips.
Apple is set to introduce a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro in early 2027, marking a faster rollout compared to past redesigns. According to Bloomberg, the new design will be available on the entry-level model shortly after its debut on high-end MacBook Pros.
The redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to include a thinner chassis, OLED displays with touch support, and potentially a Dynamic Island. The entry-level model will be powered by the M7 chip, while the current design will continue with the M6 chip until fall 2026.
Apple has also decided to delay the release of high-end M6 chips, opting instead to accelerate the M7 chip rollout. The high-end MacBook Pro refresh is expected in fall 2027, featuring M7 Pro and M7 Max chips.
The redesign is part of a broader trend for Apple to phase out older designs more quickly. Previously, the 14-inch design for the MacBook Pro took over two years to trickle down to the base model. This time, the gap is expected to be around six months.
The current entry-level MacBook Pro, priced at $1,999, is expected to remain in production alongside the redesigned model until fall 2026. The redesigned model with M7 and new design will be available in early 2027.
The timing of the redesign and chip upgrades comes amid ongoing supply chain challenges, including a memory shortage that has affected pricing and availability. The redesigned MacBook Pro with M5 Pro is expected to cost over $2,500, making the M7 model a more affordable option in the following spring.
