2026 iPad mini review: Larger screen, same price

The 2026 iPad mini features an 8.5-inch OLED screen, slightly larger than the 2024 model’s 8.3-inch IPS display. The new screen offers 326 pixels per inch and improved brightness, with Apple claiming up to 600 nits full-screen brightness.

Apple reduced bezels by 24% to fit the larger screen into a slightly smaller chassis, resulting in a more modern and streamlined design. The 2026 model measures 7.69 × 5.22 × 0.21 inches and weighs 0.56 pounds, compared to the 2024 model’s 7.69 × 5.3 × 0.25 inches and 0.65 pounds.

The new OLED screen supports HDR content with peak brightness of 1,200 nits and a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. However, it retains a 60 Hz refresh rate, which is lower than the 120 Hz found on the iPad Pro.

The iPad mini 2026 includes nano-texture glass for reduced glare, available only on the 256GB and 512GB versions at an extra $100. It also features Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Apple’s N1 wireless networki, supporting Thread networking.

The 2026 model uses Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, offering 50% more memory bandwidth and up to 60% faster performance than the previous A17 Pro chip. It supports advanced AI features like image generation and document scanning.

The iPad mini 2026 has improved speakers with two woofers and custom tweeters, delivering louder volume and clearer sound. It also earned an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, making it the first iPad with such protection.
