17-Year-Old Ajax Star Called Up by Morocco

Abdellah Ouazane, a 17-year-old attacking midfielder for Ajax, scored his first Eredivisie goal in August against Heerenveen. The goal, from 25 yards, was described as a standout performance in his debut season with the club.

Ouazane, born in 2009 in Zaandam, began his youth career at AVV Zeeburgia, a club with a history of producing Dutch internationals. He joined Ajax's youth system and quickly impressed with his athleticism and versatility.

Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi has called Ouazane up to the senior squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon and subsequent matches against Lesotho and Ghana. Ouahbi has followed Ouazane's progress closely, including attending games in Amsterdam and meeting with his family.

Ouazane, who previously represented both the Netherlands and Morocco at youth levels, has decided to commit to Morocco. He stated that his decision was made after being invited to train with the national team and being watched by Ouahbi in person.

Ouahbi has impressed Ouazane's family with his plans to integrate the player into the Morocco squad and his tactical approach. The midfielder will be 21 when Morocco hosts the World Cup in 2030.

Ouazane's rise has drawn attention from top European clubs, including Real Madrid, which previously attempted to sign him as an academy player in 2025. His contract with Ajax ends in 2028, and interest from other clubs is growing.
