Tri Astari, founder of Wikimedia Women Community (WikiPerempuan), presented at the Open Education Conference 2026 (OpenEd26) on how learning can create opportunities for women to contribute to open knowledge.

The presentation focused on the community's experience in linking learning, mentorship, and meaningful contributions to Wikimedia projects, sharing insights with an international audience.

The SheSaid campaign in Indonesia, led by WikiPerempuan, was highlighted as a case study. Launched in 2025, the campaign aimed to increase women's representation on Wikiquote through a combination of learning and direct contributions.

Participants engaged in activities such as finding and verifying quotations by women, using open licenses, and creating content for Wikimedia projects. Mentorship and peer support were integrated throughout the process.

The campaign involved 315 participants, 15 community partners, and activities across seven cities. It resulted in 2,810 new Wikiquote articles and 94 documented media items, demonstrating the scale of the initiative.

The experience emphasized the importance of access, practice, support, and opportunity in transforming learning into active participation. These elements suggest that open education can extend beyond materials and training to include practical application and community engagement.
