The Brief
- U.S. reportedly attacked Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday.
- Vance claims 'good progress' in peace talks with Iran.
- Trump warns Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
U.S. officials confirmed that strikes were carried out against Iran on Monday, targeting Qeshm Island. The attacks were reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed U.S. officials.
Qeshm Island, the largest in the Persian Gulf, is located near the Strait of Hormuz. It has become a potential U.S. target due to reports of anti-ship missiles, mines, drones, and attack craft stored in underground tunnels.
Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about reaching a 'negotiated settlement' with Iran, stating that both he and President Donald Trump feel 'really good' about the possibility of a peace deal.
Vance acknowledged that Iranians are 'unpredictable' and that Trump retains both 'kinetic and non-kinetic' options against Tehran. He also noted that no deadline has been set for reaching a peace agreement.
Earlier Monday, Trump reiterated the U.S. stance that Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, stating that 'we're not going to allow Iran ever to have a nuclear weapon.'
