Two South Koreans Arrested at Philippine Airport
Philippine immigration authorities intercept two South Korean fugitives linked to online scams.
The Brief
- Lee Jaeryeon and An Intae were intercepted at NAIA Terminal 1 attempting to flee to Vietnam.
- Both were wanted for alleged involvement in online fraud schemes.
- Interpol Red Notices led to their identification and interception.
Philippine immigration authorities intercepted two South Korean fugitives at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 as they prepared to board flights to Vietnam.
The suspects, Lee Jaeryeon, 32, and An Intae, 29, were identified through Interpol Red Notices linked to criminal cases in South Korea.
Lee was accused of working for a romance scam syndicate based in Cambodia, targeting victims through social media platforms and fraudulent websites.
An was allegedly involved in a stock investment scam using fake websites and social media to defraud investors.
The BI-Inter, acting chief Peter De Guzman reported the interceptions to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, who ordered the suspects to be blacklisted to prevent their return to the Philippines.
The arrests highlight the increasing reach of Southeast Asian-based online fraud networks, which exploit social media and fake investment platforms to defraud victims across borders.
The BI has previously intercepted other South Koreans suspected of involvement in similar scams, including Kim Kwangsin in March 2026.
The two suspects are currently detained at the BI detention facility in Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
