The Brief

  • Defensive end Darren Agu and safety Tavian Combs are questionable for Saturday's game.
  • Agu leads the team with 28 quarterback pressures and four sacks.
  • Combs has four interceptions and 28 tackles, the second-highest on the team.

New Mexico's availability report, released Thursday, indicates that two of its key defensive starters, Darren Agu and Tavian Combs, are questionable for Saturday's game against San Jose State.

Agu, a fifth-year senior, has started every game at defensive end and leads the Lobos with 28 quarterback pressures, while also recording four sacks.

Combs, a seventh-year senior, has started all games at boundary safety and leads the team with four interceptions, along with 28 total tackles, the second-highest total on the squad.

The reason for Agu and Combs' status remains unclear. Head coach Jason Eck noted that the Lobos came out in good health after their 21-16 win over North Dakota State, with no players sidelined from that game.

Other players ruled out for Saturday include linebacker Jaxton Eck (shoulder) and wide receiver Shawn Miller (concussion). Eck mentioned Jaxton's return for the Nov. 14 game against UNLV would be the best-case scenario.

Receiver Abraham Williams is also questionable for his season debut against SJSU. The 6-1, 192-pound converted cornerback has not played since suffering a lower body injury during practice.
