The Brief

  • Trump and Rubio are considering removing Guilfoyle due to reports of questionable conduct.
  • Guilfoyle allegedly asked a donor to pay a $100,000 credit card bill in exchange for access to officials.
  • State Department is investigating the claims, but no formal action has been taken.

US officials said President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as US ambassador to Greece due to a series of reported misconduct allegations.

According to a senior US official, Trump and Rubio are 'extremely pissed off' by the claims and are expected to make a decision this week after Monday’s federal holiday.

Trump did not publicly defend Guilfoyle when asked about the allegations on Friday, stating he had only heard 'a little bit' about the situation and did not know much about it.

Reports indicate that Guilfoyle allegedly requested a $100,000 payment from a Trump donor to settle an American Express card balance before her Senate confirmation. The donor, Eric Deters, said he did not send the money due to a lack of liquid assets.

A lawyer for Guilfoyle disputed the authenticity of the text messages in question, and she told administration officials she did not send them. The US embassy in Athens has also expressed support for her.

The State Department’s inspector general is reportedly reviewing the claims, though no formal investigation has been confirmed. Rubio initially defended Guilfoyle but later expressed uncertainty about the truth of the allegations.
