Titans Trade Simmons to Bears for Two First-Round Picks
Titans coach Robert Saleh confirms team will not trade other players despite interest.
The Brief
- Titans traded defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons to Bears for two first-round picks.
- Saleh said team received 'too good' an offer to pass up.
- Sale, called Simmons 'by far' the best defensive tackle in the NFL.
Titans head coach Robert Saleh said his team will not hold a fire sale ahead of the trade deadline. However, he confirmed the team accepted a 'too good' offer for defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons.
The Bears traded their next two first-round draft picks to the Titans in exchange for Simmons. Saleh said a team in the Titans’ position could not realistically have refused such an offer.
Saleh described Simmons as 'by far' the best defensive tackle in the NFL. He also praised Simmons as an elite leader and a great person, calling the trade 'tough' and stating, 'It sucks. Everything about it sucks.'
Saleh declined to comment on what he said to Simmons before he left the team’s facility for the last time. He said the conversation would remain between him and Simmons.
The Titans faced a difficult decision, but Saleh believes the trade may ultimately help the team build a winning roster. The two first-round picks could be used to address current weaknesses in the team's structure.
