Three Mexican men were convicted of murdering two Australian brothers and their American friend during a surfing trip in Baja California in April 2024. The verdict was delivered by Judge Raúl Hernández in Ensenada after a month-long trial.
The men, Jesús Gerardo García, alias 'El Kekas,' Irineo Francisco 'N,' and Ángel Jesús 'N,' were also found guilty of armed robbery and carjacking. García, identified as the main perpetrator, was arrested in May 2024 along with his ex-girlfriend Ary Gisell Silva Raya, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús.
The victims, Callum and Jake Robinson and their friend Carter Redd Rhoad, were reported missing shortly after arriving in Punta San Jose, Baja California. Their bodies were discovered near a well close to their burnt-out pickup truck nearly a week later.
Silva Raya, García’s ex-girlfriend, testified that García approached the group’s tent with a 9mm pistol and that the tourists attempted to fend him off by throwing their belongings. One tourist pleaded for his life during the attack.
Prosecutors allege García tried to steal parts from the pickup truck and shot the victims when they resisted. The bodies were later concealed in a well. The three men are set to be sentenced on October 16, with the attorney general requesting 210 years in prison for each.
Silva Raya was sentenced in November 2025 to 20 years in prison for aggravated robbery and violent vehicle offenses after pleading guilty.
