Sai Sudharsan, playing as an opener, scored 39 in the second innings as India A set Australia A a target of 363 to win the first unofficial Test.
Sudharsan, returning from a right-toe stress fracture, has all but lost his India No. 3 slot to Devdutt Padikkal, who also scored 59 in the match.
Sudharsan confirmed that the selectors had already communicated their plans to him, stating that the communication with the selectors was clear that he would open in the series.
He said that batting at the top of the order is not a very big difference for him, as he has opened frequently for Tamil Nadu and in age-group cricket.
Sudharsan fell for 39 while attempting a sweep against Todd Murphy in the second innings.
