The Brief

  • Spain fined 10,000 euros for delayed start of Nations League match against England.
  • Spain previously fined 20,000 euros by FIFA over anti-Muslim chants during Egypt friendly.
  • UEFA cites Article 11, paragraph two, point 'y' for the delay penalty.

UEFA has fined Spain 10,000 euros for the delayed start of their Nations League match against England at Wembley in September.

The fine follows a similar penalty from FIFA in March, which also ordered Spain to play their next international friendly in a partially closed stadium.

The March match against Egypt ended in a goalless draw, with Spanish fans chanting anti-Muslim slogans, including 'whoever does not jump is a Muslim'.

Spain is now considering an appeal against the earlier FIFA fine, as UEFA's disciplinary body issued the latest penalty.

France and Portugal also received fines and warnings for match delays, with France fined 10,000 euros and Portugal fined 20,000 euros.

Zinedine Zidane and Jorge Jesus, coaches of France and Portugal respectively, were also cited for the delays in their matches.
