Six Indian tourists were successfully rescued from the Shey-Phoksundo National Park area in Nepal after becoming stranded due to heavy snowfall, according to police.
The group, consisting of two women and four men, had lost contact since November 1 due to the severe weather conditions, as reported by Police Inspector Binaya Singh.
A private helicopter conducted the rescue operation on Monday morning, following an earlier failed attempt by an army helicopter on Sunday, which could not land due to poor weather.
All six tourists are currently receiving treatment at a government hospital in Dolpa district, with their condition described as out of danger by police.
The tourists had traveled to the Dho area in Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality’s Ward No. 8, approximately 300 km northwest of Kathmandu, despite warnings from local authorities about unsafe snow conditions.
The District Administration Office noted that the tourists had not obtained the required administrative permits for their trip to Upper Dolpa, according to OnlineKhabar news portal.
They became trapped at Numla and Wagla pass while returning from a visit to Shey Phoksundo Lake, which is located at an altitude of 3,600 metres and has an estimated depth of 145 metres.
