The Brief

  • Gillis dropped an f-bomb during a live SNL sketch on Oct. 10.
  • The incident occurred during a parody of 'Green Eggs and Ham.'
  • Gillis apologized and referenced the mistake at the end of the show.

Shane Gillis, a host for 'Saturday Night Live,' accidentally used an f-bomb during a live sketch broadcast on Oct. 10. The incident occurred during a parody of Dr. Seuss' 'Green Eggs and Ham.'

In the sketch, Gillis played a character frustrated with Sam-I-Am, who was trying to push green eggs and ham on him. During the scene, Gillis let the f-word slip, which was not muted and aired live on NBC.

After realizing his mistake, Gillis broke character, winced, and exclaimed, 'Jeez!' It took a few moments for the sketch to return to its original course, and Gillis waved to the audience, who responded with laughter and applause.

Later in the sketch, Mikey Day, another cast member, chided Gillis' character for using a bad word. Gillis responded by saying, 'Yes, I did,' and ended the sketch by apologizing for the earlier mistake.

Gillis also referenced the incident at the end of the show, again expressing regret during his goodnight remarks. Uncensored f-bombs are rare on live SNL broadcasts, though similar incidents have occurred in the past.

In 2025, musical guest Sabrina Carpenter performed a live rendition of 'Nobody's Son' that included two f-words. Sam Rockwell and Kristen Stewart also let f-bombs slip during live performances on the show in 2018 and 2017, respectively. This was Gillis' third hosting stint, with his monologues previously drawing criticism for controversial content.
