The Brief
- Senate majority supports removing 'corruption-prone' projects from 2027 budget.
- DPWH to submit documents for infrastructure projects by November 3.
- Senate review finds 6,271 new DPWH projects added without executive vetting.
The Senate majority bloc has agreed to remove projects deemed 'corruption-prone' from the House-approved version of the 2027 national budget, according to Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson.
Lacson stated that Senate finance committee chairman JV Ejercito is leading efforts to eliminate unwarranted, whimsical, and corruption-prone items from the budget.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has committed to submitting all required documents for its infrastructure projects by November 3, as per Lacson's announcement.
Projects without the required documents will be removed from the House-approved General Appropriations Bill.
Budget advocacy groups, including the People’s Budget Coalition (PBC) and BetterGovPH, had flagged nearly 7,000 projects worth P190 billion with no published project attachments in the HGAB.
A Senate review revealed that the number of DPWH projects rose from 11,420 in the National Expenditure Program to 16,244 in the House-approved GAB.
Of these, 6,271 were new projects introduced by lawmakers without prior vetting by the executive branch.
