Senate President calls for nationwide inspection following discovery of dumped animal remains.
The Brief
- 29 dead pets found dumped in San Jose del Monte.
- Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium linked to incident.
- Bacoor Mayor orders crematorium closure due to lack of proof.
Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian has called for a nationwide inspection of pet crematoriums and animal aftercare businesses following the discovery of 29 dead pets dumped along a roadside in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The remains of dogs and cats were found in a vacant lot in Barangay Minuyan Proper, placed in plastic bags within large sacks, each labeled with the animals' names and weights.
The incident is linked to Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium in Bacoor City, Cavite, after pet owners raised concerns about the fate of their deceased pets entrusted to the facility.
Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla ordered the crematorium closed due to the owner's inability to provide sufficient documentation and CCTV footage proving the cremations had occurred.
More than 30 pet owners are seeking answers from the establishment, with some considering legal action and seeking compensation for the alleged failure to deliver services.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society advised affected pet owners to pursue legal action, citing the alleged misrepresentation of cremation services as potentially constituting estafa under Article 315(2)(a) of the Revised Penal Code.
