- He likened Gandhi's remarks to Islamic fundamentalists discussing secularism.
- Gandhi challenged Modi to a public debate on the allegations.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of receiving foreign support to become and remain in office.
In a post on X, Rijiju compared Gandhi's remarks to Islamic fundamentalists speaking about secularism, separatists carrying Indian flags, and anarchists displaying the Constitution.
Rijiju stated that pushing agendas of India's enemies while accusing others of foreign support is self-ridiculing. He added that top-level debates should be between mature individuals.
Rahul's remarks were in response to PM Modi's 'Ekta Diwas' speech, in which the Prime Minister accused the opposition of being an obstructionist force and warned against forces allegedly working to divide the country.
PM Modi also questioned whom some people were meeting abroad and alleged that anti-India forces were supporting those speaking against the country's interests.
Rahul also challenged the Prime Minister to an open debate on the allegations, saying he would not accept the challenge.
