Paxton Campaign Cuts Alamo Event
Texas Senate candidate's final event rescheduled amid logistical concerns.
The Brief
- Paxton's campaign removes Alamo event from Election Day schedule.
- Alternative events in Conroe and Allen remain on the itinerary.
- Alamo prohibits political activities per its website policy.
Ken Paxton's campaign has removed the Alamo event from its schedule for the eve of the election. The event was initially planned as the conclusion of a two-week bus tour through Texas.
The campaign did not provide a public explanation for the change. However, the revised schedule includes events in Conroe and Allen, both located far from San Antonio, where the Alamo is situated.
The Allen event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT, which would not allow Paxton time to travel to San Antonio that evening. The campaign has not responded to requests for comment.
The Alamo, a historic site and World Heritage Site, prohibits political activities according to its official website. Paxton's campaign had previously announced the Alamo as the final stop of its 'Come and Take It' tour.
Paxton is running for Senate against Democrat James Talarico. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988, but recent polls show Talarico with a slight lead. CBS News classifies the race as a toss-up.
