The Brief

  • Mayor Tawde labeled Dia Mirza 'anti-Hindutva' after her video was removed from BMC social media.
  • The video was commissioned by the BMC but was taken down after BJP official Ameet Satam objected.
  • Similar anti-firecrackers videos by other celebrities remain online.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde criticized actor Dia Mirza, calling her 'anti-Hindutva,' after her anti-firecrackers video was removed from the city's civic body social media accounts.

The video, commissioned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was taken down following objections from BJP Mumbai chief Ameet Satam, who stated that Diwali celebrations should not be taught by Mirza.

Other anti-firecrackers videos featuring celebrities like Madhuri Dix, Ajinkya Rahane, and Nishigandha Wad remain online despite similar objections.

Tawde stated the decision to remove Mirza's video was not linked to her religion, emphasizing that the actor's 'anti-Hindu and anti-government' stance was the reason for the action.

The BMC removed the video without providing an official explanation, with Tawde claiming the move was due to Mirza's 'selective propaganda' and her potential blacklisting in the Mahayuti government.

Tawde referred questions about the video's removal to the BMC administration, stating that the administration had not consulted her and that she would address the issue with the BMC Commissioner.
