Matthew Weiner Exits Peacock Series 'The Chairman'
Creator departs project amid creative differences as new team steps in.
The Brief
- Matthew Weiner is no longer involved with 'The Chairman' after creative differences.
- New showrunning team will be announced soon as the project moves forward.
- Eddie Murphy remains attached as star and producer.
Matthew Weiner has exited the development of the Peacock series 'The Chairman' following creative differences with the show's producers, according to Variety sources.
The project, which was first reported in development less than a month ago, features Eddie Murphy as a star. Murphy also serves as a producer on the series.
A new showrunning team is expected to be announced in the coming days as the creative leads take over. The writers’ room has been placed on a two-week hiatus during the transition.
The series, produced by Universal Television and 101 Studios, will be the first live-action project starring Murphy since his time on 'Saturday Night Live.'
101 Studios, run by 'Yellowstone' executive producer David Glasser, is under a first-look deal at NBCUniversal that began in January. 'The Chairman' will also be the first project from ex-Paramount boss Chris McCarthy’s deal at the studio.
Weiner, known for creating 'Mad Men,' has not written for television since 2018, when he created the Amazon Prime Video series 'The Romanoffs.'
