A man was mauled to death by a Siberian tiger at a zoo in England after taunting the animal, according to eyewitness accounts. The incident occurred at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster on Saturday.
Witnesses reported the man was seen walking around the park with headphones on and dancing. One person captured audio of him asking for a photo with the tiger, Altai, behind him.
The man climbed a 15-foot fence into the tiger enclosure, despite attempts by a nearby woman to stop him. She said she was not strong enough to hold him back and feared for her own safety.
Once inside, the man reportedly got down on his knees and taunted the tiger, appearing to perform for onlookers. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the man seemingly detached from reality as the tiger attacked him.
The tiger staff responded by firing two warning shots to the ground to scare the animal away. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the tiger, Altai, was unharmed and will not be euthanized.
Following the attack, the zoo raised a black screen around the tiger enclosure and closed the park for the remainder of the weekend. The park stated it is working with authorities to investigate the incident and prioritize visitor safety.
