Eliud Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic champion, won the Melbourne marathon on Sunday, marking his first victory over the distance since 2023.
The Kenyan athlete crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 10 seconds, two seconds faster than the previous race record.
Kipchoge's win was part of his 'World Tour' initiative, aimed at raising funds for various causes he supports.
The marathon course included sections of the Australian Formula One track at Albert Park and concluded at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Kipchoge stated that the course was enjoyable, with fans cheering and shouting his name, and he expressed confidence in his body's ability to compete with younger athletes.
Australian Thomas Do Canto finished second in 2:10:35, while compatriot Reece Edwards came in third at 2:14:33.
In the women's race, New Zealand's Camille French won in 2:28:25, followed by Australian Sinead Diver at 2:28:49 and Irish runner Nichola Sheridan at 2:29:13.
