The Brief

  • Antonelli, 20, became youngest F1 World Champion after third-place finish.
  • Verstappen won race, finishing ahead of Hamilton.
  • Race featured multiple incidents and safety car periods.

Kimi Antonelli secured his maiden Formula 1 world title at the age of 20 after finishing third in the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. The result was enough to clinch the championship for the Italian driver, who had needed only a ninth-place finish to achieve the feat.

Max Verstappen claimed victory in the race, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen's win marked his third victory of the season and extended his lead in the championship standings.

Antonelli started the race from fourth position on the grid and delivered a composed performance despite several interruptions, including a mid-race red flag following a heavy crash involving Valtteri Bottas and a late Safety Car period triggered by an accident involving Arvid Lindblad.

Verstappen took the lead after Charles Leclerc received a time penalty for cutting the track during a battle with Hamilton. The Dutch driver maintained his advantage through the restart and resisted Hamilton's late pressure to secure the win.

Leclerc finished fourth after holding off a late charge from Lando Norris, while George Russell took fifth place for Mercedes. Liam Lawson completed the top six for Red Bull after starting from the pit lane.
