Kenswitch Partners With Wibmo to Boost Online Card Security
Kenya's payment switch collaborates with PayU's Wibmo to enhance e-commerce transaction security.
The Brief
- Kenswitch and Wibmo aim to improve online card authentication for Kenyan financial institutions.
- The partnership provides access to EMV 3-D Secure technology for secure transaction verification.
- Enhanced security measures support both local and global e-commerce transactions.
Kens, Kenya’s domestic payment switch, has formed a partnership with Wibmo, a PayU company, to improve authentication for online card payments and support e-commerce transactions routed through domestic infrastructure.
The collaboration gives financial institutions connected to Kenswitch access to the Access Control Server (ACS), which uses EMV 3-D Secure technology to verify that online purchases are made by authorized cardholders.
The partnership enhances Kenswitch’s domestic e-commerce payment processing, allowing eligible cards issued by participating institutions to be used for online transactions, subject to payment-network rules and regulatory thresholds.
Kenswitch’s enhanced online acquiring assesses transaction risk in real time, determining whether a payment can proceed without additional verification or requires cardholder authentication through methods like one-time passwords, biometrics, or push-based approvals.
For participating banks, the collaboration aims to strengthen protection against unauthorized online card use while minimizing disruptions to legitimate purchases.
Wibmo’s payment-authentication technology and Kenswitch’s shared infrastructure will work together to support secure, interoperable payment systems across local and international merchant networks.
