Kaufmann Sentenced to Life in Italy for Partner and Daughter's Murder
U.S. producer found guilty of killing his partner and child in Rome.
The Brief
- Kaufmann convicted of murdering his partner and daughter in Italy.
- Sentence includes life imprisonment and three years in solitary.
- Arrested in Greece after 18 months of investigation.
Francis Charles Kaufmann, a U.S. film producer, was convicted of murdering his partner and their 11-month-old daughter in Italy. The court sentenced him to life in prison, with three years of solitary confinement.
The bodies of Anastasia Trofimova, a 28-year-old Russian national, and their daughter Andromeda were discovered in Rome’s Villa Pamphili park on June 7, 2025. Local investigators took several days to identify the victims and link them to Kaufmann.
Kaufmann was traveling under the false identity of Rexal Ford, a film producer and director, when he was arrested on June 13 on the Greek island of Skiathos. The arrest involved cooperation between Italian and Greek police and the FBI.
Kaufmann had previously used multiple aliases as a film producer and secured a €863,595 tax credit from the Italian Ministry of Culture in 2020 for a film that was never made. His defense lawyer argued there was insufficient evidence to convict him.
The verdict and sentence were delivered by eight judges at Italy’s highest criminal court, the prima Corte d’Assise, in Rome.
