Kanagawa prefectural police have arrested six Japanese men aged 22 to 58 for their suspected role in a telephone scam operation based in Vietnam.
The suspects were transferred from Vietnam, where local authorities dismantled the scam base in Bac Ninh, northern Vietnam, in June.
According to police, the group allegedly conspired with unknown individuals to defraud a woman in her 20s in Yamaguchi Prefecture of ¥1 million on May 22.
The scam involved fake police calls, with perpetrators claiming the victim was suspected of being part of a fraud group.
The six men are believed to have entered Vietnam through Cambodia and are linked to over 150 fraud cases in Japan's Kanto and Chubu regions.
Sources stated the total amount stolen by the group exceeds ¥500 million. The scam base was uncovered after a Japanese individual fled to the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi.
