Israel Weapons Industry Expands into Southeast Asia with Thailand Deployment
Israel's IWI delivers anti-drone system to Thailand amid rising regional drone threats.
The Brief
- IWI delivers ARBEL ADS to Thailand's Ministry of Defense.
- Thailand integrates system into existing rifles without replacing inventory.
- IWI reports interest from four Southeast Asian nations in ARBEL ADS.
Israel Weapons Industry (IWI) has delivered its ARBEL Anti-Drone System (ADS) to Thailand's Ministry of Defense, according to the company's October 22 statement.
Thailand integrated the system by replacing the lower receiver of existing rifles with the ARBEL ADS system, allowing for local upgrades without replacing rifle inventories.
IWI stated the system is compatible with AR-15-type platforms, light machine guns, and is optics-agnostic, enabling use on existing rifle platforms.
The company noted that Thailand's deployment of ARBEL ADS reflects growing regional interest in counter-drone capabilities, as small tactical drones pose an increasing threat to military operations.
IWI reported that four Southeast Asian nations are currently at different stages of the procurement process for its ARBEL ADS system, though the company declined to name the other three countries.
The company highlighted recent drone-related hostilities along the Cambodia-Thailand border as an example of the growing threat from small tactical drones in the region.
