The Brief
- Iranian officials say a potential war with the U.S. could last longer than previous conflicts.
- Trump claims U.S. could strike remaining targets in Iran within 10 minutes.
- Iran warns of no geographical limitations in a potential conflict with the U.S.
Iranian officials warned on Sunday that any renewed war with the United States could last longer than the previous round of fighting, following remarks from President Donald Trump about potential strikes.
Trump suggested the U.S. could swiftly strike remaining targets in Iran, stating that 'we can do that in 10 minutes' and referring to a suspected underground nuclear complex.
Iran's army spokesman, Mohammad Akraminia, said the American president would not be in a position to dictate the timing or conditions of a potential war's conclusion.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards spokesman, Hossein Mohebbi, echoed warnings from Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, stating there are 'no geographical limitations' in a conflict with the U.S.
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, called for rationality and diplomacy, while Iran's security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, said he had received a letter from U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance seeking to revive talks.
Rezaei noted a shift in tone from the U.S. but said Tehran had previously told Washington that unless its conditions were met, negotiations would not occur.
Conditions include unfreezing Iranian assets, ending the U.S. naval blockade, lifting sanctions, and ending the war on all fronts. Iran has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz and targeted vessels attempting to cross without authorization.
Anwar Gargash, UAE diplomatic adviser, expressed hope for a diplomatic breakthrough but warned the region is bracing for the worst. Some Iranians expressed helplessness or indifference as threats of renewed fighting mount.
