India supported a United Nations resolution urging the United States to end its embargo on Cuba, joining 129 other nations in the vote.
The resolution was passed on Wednesday with 130 votes in favor, 17 against, and 25 abstentions. The United States and Israel were among the countries opposing the measure.
Last year, 165 nations voted in favor of the resolution, with only 7 opposing and 12 abstaining. Germany and Italy, which previously supported the measure, abstained this time.
The resolution is non-binding but carries diplomatic weight. However, recent remarks by the Trump administration on Cuba may reduce its impact on US policy.
Only the US Congress can lift the embargo, which has been a major point of contention between Washington and Havana for over six decades.
India's representative, Soumya Nair, stated the General Assembly has repeatedly called for an end to the embargo and urged states to repeal laws affecting other nations' sovereignty.
