India-Saudi Flight Suspensions Continue Amid Security Concerns
India's airlines extend flight suspensions to Saudi Arabia due to ongoing security issues.
The Brief
- Akasa Air suspends flights to Jeddah until November 18 and Riyadh until November 30.
- India's airlines suspend services to multiple Saudi destinations until November 14.
- Indian Embassy reports casualties from attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities.
India's airlines have extended flight suspensions to Saudi Arabia as security concerns persist in the Gulf kingdom. Akasa Air announced on Sunday that services to Jeddah will remain suspended until November 18, with flights to Riyadh suspended until November 30.
The latest suspensions follow earlier announcements by Air India and Air India Express, which had halted flights to and from Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam until November 14. These disruptions come amid ongoing attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh reported that one Indian national was killed and two others injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on October 21. Another Indian was injured in an attack on Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.
The Embassy stated it is in contact with Saudi authorities and will provide assistance to affected Indians. India has previously condemned attacks on Abha and King Khalid International Airports, calling such actions unacceptable.
Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for several attacks on Saudi targets, including airports and energy infrastructure. The group has conducted missile and drone strikes amid the broader regional conflict.
The Indian Embassy has issued advisories urging nationals to remain calm, stay indoors during aerial attacks, and follow local authorities' instructions. It also advised against sharing videos or news related to the situation.
The Consulate General of India in Jeddah is working with airlines, local authorities, and community groups to assist affected Indian nationals, especially Umrah pilgrims, and arrange alternative travel options.
