- Union claims weekend pay rates are a minimum expectation.
Ikea staff in Australia plan to conduct industrial action tomorrow, including a barbecue and a haka performance at 2pm outside the store.
The company confirmed the store would be trading as usual tomorrow.
Union national organiser Jas Giri stated that weekend pay rates are a minimum expectation for workers in Ikea’s Australian stores.
A spokesperson for Ikea New Zealand told the Herald they respect the right for employees to engage in lawful industrial action. Their goal is to reach an agreement that is fair and sustainable, recognises the contribution of their co-workers, supports the long-term success of the business, and enables them to continue offering affordable products and a great experience for customers.
The existing employment offer for co-workers includes competitive pay and a wide range of benefits, including five weeks’ annual leave, generous parental leave, subsidised meals, public transport support, co-worker discounts, and participation in the Ikea global bonus programme.
Employee and union bargaining member Sally Huang, who is set to leave her job in frustration, said during negotiations that four people had resigned since bargaining meetings began. That’s including herself and the HFRD manager.
