IBSA Ministers Condemn Pahalgam Attack, Call for UNSC Reform

India, Brazil, and South Africa's foreign ministers met in New York and jointly condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack, reaffirming their commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism.

The ministers issued a joint statement calling for comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council to make it more democratic, representative, legitimate, and reflective of contemporary realities.

They also emphasized the need for a more equitable global economic governance system that includes greater participation from developing and emerging economies.

The statement highlighted concerns over the spillover of conflicts in the Global South, particularly through energy and food insecurity, inflation, and fiscal pressures.

The ministers stressed the importance of protecting balanced, fair, and mutually beneficial trade to promote equitable growth, inclusive development, and greater resilience.

They also called for urgent action on climate change, noting its role in increasing the frequency and intensity of natural disasters that threaten sustainable development.
